Job title: Senior Nutrition Assessment Advisor
Job location: Various (up to 75% overseas)
Duration: 12-month fixed term contract (with the possibility of an extension), Full-time
Salary:£38,612 - £41,292 per annum (if UK based), or equivalent market rate if home based overseas.

JOB PURPOSE

As our Senior Nutrition Assessment Advisor you will:

  • Build the capacity of nutrition programmes in the design, planning, implementation and documentation of nutrition assessments worldwide .
  • Further promote and improve the availability, quality and strategic utilization of nutrition data to improve nutrition policy and practice.
  • Support nutrition programmes in the development of strategic action plans to improve quality, access & coverage as well as prevention of malnutrition.
  • You will work with a very caring team which holds kindness and professionalism at its core.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

You’ll support NGOs and UN partners in the analysis of nutrition information and the development of appropriate measures to consolidate and/or improve their performance**.**

  • Contribute to the identification and development of potential business opportunities for the Nutrition Assessment team and for the Monitoring and Evaluation services team;
  • Manage relationship between Action Against Hunger UK, other members, and partners in country
  • Support nutrition programmes with the development and implementation of strategic action plans for improving quality, access and coverage as well as prevention of malnutrition;
  • Provide both basic and advanced technical trainings to NGOs, donors and UN partners on different nutrition assessments.

You’ll support positioning of Action Against Hunger as a key reference on nutrition assessment in the development and humanitarian sector.

  • Support in identifying key strategic partnerships and collaborations in focus countries & lead on the proposal creation and project management of awarded grants including on UNICEF long term agreements;
  • Provide technical oversight of activities/projects undertaken by Action Against Hunger-UK regarding SMART and coverage surveys, Bottleneck analysis, Cost of Diet assessments and Link NCAs. This includes a validation of all project reports, coordination of publications and methodological reviews in specific countries.
  • Contribute to the objectives of the Monitoring and Evaluation services team by leading and contributing to their projects (eg. Evaluations, case studies and monitoring and evaluation products)
  • Constantly improve the methodology and tools used to perform nutrition assessments in order to improve the sensitivity of the tools used and adapt the methodology to new context of work (urban, refugee settlements, nomadic populations, moderate acute malnutrition, infants, etc.)
  • Create, develop and draft bespoke technical and/or practical guidance for nutrition surveillance at country level;
  • Contribute to the development of a project proposal to plan and implement a nutrition survey using new methodologies and develop field guidance and training modules for future surveys

You’ll help us to effectively share and manage Information

  • Contribute to the capitalization of experiences in the planning, implementation and follow-up of nutrition assessments and to the improvement of respective methodologies through regular debriefings with the Head of Nutrition, mission reports and/or other available means;
  • Disseminate project outputs and experiences through the Coverage Monitoring, the State of Acute Malnutrition and Link NCA websites and through other relevant forums such as the Action Against Hunger website, the knowledge hub and EN-NET;
  • Regularly share information about the progress of projects with nutrition stakeholders (e.g. Field Exchange) ensuring that lessons learned are regularly and adequately documented at national, regional and global level;
  • Contribute to the development of new project outputs including (but not limited to) peer-reviewed publications and nutrition assessment monitoring toolkits.

The above list of key duties is not exclusive or exhaustive and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post.

The job will involve international travel, in line with our International Environmental Framework. And finally, you’ll need to adhere to our Code of Conduct and organisational policies and protocols.

You will be expected to adhere to the terms of the Action Against Hunger International Code of Conduct and associated policies, as a condition of your employment. All employees have particular responsibility for understanding and following protocols in relation to safeguarding (children and vulnerable adults), and protection from sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA). Those in management positions are also responsible for ensuring that staff, volunteers, consultants and other key stakeholders are made aware of and supported in implementing these measures.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED ESSENTIAL

  • Typically educated to/equal to Master’s Degree level in nutrition, public health or other related field.
  • Knowledge and proven experience in programme management and in at least one of the following technical sectors: nutrition or food security preferably in the international sector
  • Knowledge and experience in nutrition assessment of community-based nutrition programmes (SQUEAC/SLEAC, SMART, Cost of Diet, Link NCAs, qualitative studies…)
  • Knowledge and proven experience in programme management and in at least one of the following technical sectors: nutrition or food security preferably in the international sector
  • Knowledge and experience in nutrition assessment of community-based nutrition programmes (SQUEAC/SLEAC, SMART, Cost of Diet, Link NCAs, qualitative studies…)
  • Proven experience of national level representation skills
  • Proven leadership skills and experience of managing complex teams and dynamics and building mutually beneficial alliances and networks at senior level
  • Demonstrable skills in creating, establishing and negotiating relationships with various stakeholders
  • Good level of interpersonal skills with a high level of English written and oral communication levels
  • Able to conduct a training of trainers at national and international level
  • Ability to travel extensively to challenging emergency and post-emergency contexts
  • Ability to write clearly and succinctly, for a range of audiences, from lengthy formal submissions to short articles for social media or blogs;
  • IT literate (Microsoft packages) and experience in data management/mapping
  • Strong understanding of issues in the developing and humanitarian world
  • A demonstrable personal and professional commitment to uphold the principles and practices in relation to equality, diversity and inclusion.

DESIRABLE

  • Beneficial additional languages includes French(preferred), Spanish or Arabic
  • Previous experience in management of CMAM programmes
  • Experience working in coalitions or networks
  • An understanding of policy and strategic development
